Ayurvedic Therapies

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term, meaning “The Science of Life”. It is an ancient Indian holistic Medicinal system, which has been practised for over 5000 years. A toolkit of yoga, breathing and meditation techniques, combined with therapies, herbal remedies, and dietary and lifestyle advice, enables the promotion of good health in healthy people, and the restoration of health to individuals with health problems. There is a strong interrelationship between our minds and our bodies and this interrelationship between mind and body is the cultural framework of Akasha. Blissful Mind Shirodhara

Known as the King of Treatments, Shirodhara evokes calm, serenity, escapism and sound sleep. During this deeply relaxing treatment, a face and neck massage precedes a warm stream of oil being carefully poured onto the central chakra point on the forehead in a rhythmic manner…then a scalp massage. An excellent remedy for stress.

Herbal Compress Massage (Pinda Sweda)

Therapeutic Ayurvedic herbal powders are crushed in a traditional pestle and mortar and tied into a muslin cloth which forms the medium for this treatment, known in India as a bolus. After warming, oil is applied to the body using the bolus and an Ayurvedic technique known as pummelling. Extremely nourishing, strengthening and rejuvenating, this treatment is great for sports enthusiasts as it addresses problems relating to weak joints and sore muscles.

Good for: stiff joints and pains; arthritis; inflamed muscles; certain skin conditions

Herbal Scrub Massage (Udvartana)

Warm oil is combined with a fragrant blend of powdered herbs being worked into the body through massage to detoxify, cleanse and exfoliate.

Ayurvedic Head Massage (Shiroabyhanga)

A deeply therapeutic caring treatment designed to nourish the scalp, and wash away tensions associated with migraine, headache and neck stiffness. It involves warm dosha-specific oils poured into the hair, aiding the nourishment of roots. While the indigenous herbs calm and revitalise the spirit, ancient massage techniques allow the body to surrender and enhance overall equilibrium.

In your own private treatment room with a blend of techniques, you are guided through a series of actions, and led through a specific guided meditation to lower blood pressure and stress levels, and to support immune function.
